Angels Secure 3-2 Victory Over Astros with Siri's Dramatic 10th-Inning Hit
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — In a thrilling finish, Jose Siri secured a walk-off single during the 10th inning, propelling the Los Angeles Angels to a 3-2 victory against the Houston Astros on Wednesday night. The game featured home runs from Mike Trout and Logan O’Hoppe, showcasing the Angels' offensive prowess.
Angels pitcher Reid Detmers was dominant early on, retiring 15 consecutive batters before Shay Whitcomb broke through with a home run to start the sixth inning. Chase Silseth took over for Detmers in the eighth, but he allowed a leadoff homer to Cam Smith that tied the score at 2-2. Houston nearly gained the upper hand in the ninth when Yordan Alvarez's single was followed by a double from Christian Walker. However, the Angels successfully challenged the safe call at home plate, resulting in an overturned decision.
In the 10th inning, Bryan Abreu (2-3) took the mound for the Astros. Pinch-hitter Donovan Walton opened with a single, advancing automatic runner Nick Madrigal to third base. Siri, facing off against his former team, then delivered an impressive hit on an 0-2 pitch, sending it into left field to bring Madrigal home.
Ryan Zeferjahn (3-3) pitched a perfect inning to secure the win for Los Angeles. Trout's 15th home run initiated the scoring in the first inning, while O'Hoppe's long ball in the fifth extended the Angels' lead to 2-0. Houston's Peter Lambert gave up two runs and five hits over 6 1/3 innings, striking out six batters. Detmers, meanwhile, allowed just one hit across seven innings, recording nine strikeouts without any walks, placing him third in the American League with 97 strikeouts.
Alvarez extended his impressive on-base streak to 17 games with his performance. Looking ahead, the Astros will start a three-game series against Kansas City on Friday night, while the Angels will host Tampa Bay for the first game of their own three-game set.
