Schubart and Chourio Shine in Minor League Action

The Columbus Clippers faced a tough defeat against the Indianapolis Indians, ending the game with a score of 1-11. Struggling offensively, the Clippers could only muster four hits and three walks, while their pitching staff allowed seven hits, including three home runs, and issued nine walks. CJ Kayfus and Nolan Jones each contributed with a hit and a walk, but Austin Peterson’s performance was marred by five walks and only four strikeouts, although he limited the damage to just three runs.

In another matchup, the Akron RubberDucks fell to the Erie Seawolves 6-8, despite the impressive performances of Luke Hill and Jaison Chourio. Since their promotion to Double-A, both players have been on fire at the plate. Hill recorded two doubles in a 2-for-4 effort, raising his batting average to .370 with an OPS of 1.007. Meanwhile, Chourio launched a three-run homer over the center field wall, bringing his average to .319 with an OPS of .945. Their stellar performances may soon place them among the top prospects in the Guardians organization.

The Lake County Captains were defeated by the West Michigan Whitecaps, finishing 4-8. Nolan Schubart demonstrated his potential with a 2-for-4 night, including his 13th home run of the season, raising his batting average to .233 and his OPS to .866. Tommy Hawke also had a solid game, going 2-for-4 with a walk, boosting his average to .315 and his OPS to .884. However, Michael Kennedy's pitching struggled as he allowed two runs over four innings, leading to an elevated ERA of 5.35.

In Single A, Juneiker Caceres continued to impress in a close game where the Hill City Howlers narrowly lost to the Wilson Warbirds, 7-8. Caceres, who may be the brightest prospect in the system, went 2-for-4 with a double, now boasting a .317 average and a .921 OPS at just 18 years old. His elite contact skills and raw power have many optimistic about his future. Cannon Peebles added two RBIs to his name while Jose Pirela contributed with an RBI single. After a strong start to the season, Nelson Keljo's recent struggles continued, allowing three runs in 4.2 innings pitched, which raised his ERA to 4.42.
