The Heartfelt Sacrifice Behind Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's Rise in Cricket

NEW DELHI: Before the emergence of cricket prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, his father, Sanjeev Sooryavanshi, made a monumental choice that would shape their family's future. Inherited ancestral land in Bihar, a treasure trove of memories and heritage, was sacrificed to support his son's aspirations. In India, such properties often hold deep emotional significance, making Sanjeev's decision all the more poignant. Ultimately, he placed his son's ambitions above any material possession.

Years after that pivotal moment, Vaibhav has turned dreams into reality. "Ab sab cheez usse upar aa gaya hai. Sapna sach ho gaya hai. Ab zameen, paisa, rupiya ka koi mahatva nahi hai," Sanjeev shared with TimesofIndia.com, reflecting on his son's remarkable achievements. At merely 15 years old, Vaibhav has established himself as a rising star in Indian cricket, having played a crucial role in India’s Under-19 World Cup victory in 2026 and now representing the senior national team.

His recent selection for the T20I series against Ireland and England marks him as the youngest player ever to be called up for the Indian squad. Vaibhav's astounding IPL 2026 performance saw him clinch the title of leading run-scorer with 776 runs, earning multiple accolades including the Orange Cap for his outstanding strike rate and numerous match-winning innings.

For Sanjeev, the accolades are secondary to the joy of witnessing his son fulfill his dreams. "Koi regret nahi hai. Vaibhav jo bhi haasil kar raha hai, woh sab cheezon se bahut upar hai," he remarked, emphasizing the pride he feels as a father. Vaibhav's journey began at just four years old, and despite financial and logistical challenges, Sanjeev remained committed, even purchasing a car to facilitate training trips.

As excitement builds around his son's potential debut, the family is preparing for a significant milestone. If selected, Vaibhav could break Sachin Tendulkar's record as the youngest international cricketer. Sanjeev expressed their readiness for the journey ahead, stating, "Yes, we will go to the UK. We have received the documents from the BCCI. We are going to the UK." With a blend of anticipation and optimism, they look forward to what the future holds for Vaibhav in the world of cricket.
