Southern California High School Baseball: Recap of Tuesday's Regional Playoff Results and Upcoming Matchups
In the CIF Southern California baseball regionals, several thrilling first-round games took place on Tuesday, showcasing the talent of high school teams across various divisions.
In Division I, the #8 seed San Diego Cathedral pulled off a notable upset, defeating the top-ranked St. John Bosco with a final score of 4-2. Other highlights included La Mirada (#5) edging out Bakersfield Liberty (#4) 7-6, while Huntington Beach (#7) triumphed over Patrick Henry (#2) with a convincing 10-3 victory. The matchup between #6 Chula Vista Eastlake and #3 Corona is set to occur on Wednesday.
Division II saw Arroyo Grande (#8) narrowly beat Loyola (#1) 4-3, and Bakersfield Christian (#4) secured a 3-1 win against St. Francis (#5). Point Loma (#3) also advanced with a 5-2 victory over Millikan (#6), while Newport Harbor (#2) shut out San Diego Madison (#7) 2-0.
In Division III, Kaiser (#8) managed to defeat Mt. Carmel (#1) 2-0. Helix (#4) dominated Laguna Beach (#5) with a score of 13-4, and Westview (#6) bested Carson (#3) 7-1. The match between Culver City (#7) and Glendora (#2) was suspended in the 13th inning due to darkness, with Culver City leading 11-10.
Division IV saw South El Monte (#8) achieve a surprising 3-2 victory over Brentwood (#1), while Francis Parker (#5) defeated Covina (#4) 6-1. Central Valley Christian (#3) edged out Garfield (#6) 6-5, and North Torrance (#7) shut out Bell (#2) 2-0.
In Division V, Verdugo Hills (#1) claimed an 11-2 win against Rolling Hills Prep (#8), while LA Roosevelt (#5) overcame Rancho Alamitos (#4) 7-4. Schurr (#3) crushed Webb (#6) 11-1, and Coastal Academy (#2) narrowly defeated Fremont (#7) 5-4.
Looking ahead, the semifinals are scheduled for Thursday, with games starting at 4 p.m. The finals for all divisions will take place on Saturday, June 6 at 4 p.m. at the higher seeds' venues.
