Spokane Indians Clinch Series with 4-2 Victory Over Eugene Emeralds
EUGENE, Ore. — In a thrilling conclusion to their six-game series, the Spokane Indians secured a 4-2 win against the Eugene Emeralds on Sunday, highlighted by Alan Espinal's home run and a pivotal pickoff error. With this victory, the Indians captured four of the six games in the series at PK Park, showcasing their power with a total of 14 home runs.
The Emeralds initially took control in the second inning, as Lisbel Diaz and Walker Martin launched back-to-back home runs, marking their ninth and eighth homers of the season, respectively. However, Spokane evened the score in the fourth. Jack O'Dowd, after drawing a walk, crossed home plate thanks to Espinal's fifth home run of the year, a commanding shot to left field.
The game remained tied until the seventh inning, when Kelvin Hidalgo's single put him on base. He advanced to third on a hit from Juan Castillo, leading to a critical moment when Ems reliever Cade Vernon’s pickoff attempt sailed into foul territory, allowing Hidalgo to score uncontested. The Emeralds threatened to tie it in the eighth, loading the bases after Dakota Jordan's walk and two consecutive walks issued by Hunter Mann, but a flyout by Diaz extinguished the danger.
In the ninth, the Indians loaded the bases again and added an insurance run via a groundout. The Emeralds, however, went down in order against Mann to finalize the game. Spokane's starting pitcher, Everett Catlett (4-4), delivered an impressive performance, allowing just two solo home runs and striking out eight batters over six innings, while throwing 55 strikes out of 82 pitches.
Looking ahead, the Indians will begin a 12-game homestand on Tuesday, kicking off with a six-game matchup against Vancouver this week, followed by a visit from Tri-City from June 23 to 28.
