St. Joseph Academy Softball Team Falls Short in State Championship
The St. Joseph Academy softball team was unable to clinch the state title, suffering a 10-5 defeat against DePaul in a rematch of last year's Non-Public B championship. The game took place at Ivy Hill Park in Newark, where the Wildcats initially surged ahead with a two-run lead.
St. Joseph concluded its season with an impressive record of 25-4, boasting its seventh consecutive sectional title and a second straight championship in the Cape-Atlantic League Tournament. The Wildcats began the game on a high note as junior Kaylin Marshall hit a two-run homer in the first inning, igniting hopes for a victory.
However, DePaul rallied, taking a 3-2 lead by the third inning and seizing control with a dominant five-run fifth inning. Senior Alaina Dorsey made her final high school game memorable, going 2-for-4 with two runs and a stolen base. Dorsey is set to continue her softball career at Seton Hall University next season, where she will play on the same field.
Support also came from teammates Isabella Ramos, Lanie Giovinazzi, and Tenley VanArtsdalen, who contributed with RBIs for St. Joseph. The Wildcats displayed commendable effort throughout the season, marking a significant achievement for the program.
