Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger unimpressed by rookie QB Drew Allar.
From the moment he was selected in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft, we said that former Penn State quarterback Drew Allar would be the player who would make or break this draft class. Allar's scouting report is all over the place and if you ask 10 pundits you will get 10 different evaluations as to what his potential is in the NFL.
Former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and future Hall of Famer Ben Roethlisberger talked about the pick of Allar on his Footbhalin with Ben Podcast and it didn't like Allar had much of an impression on Roethlisberger during his time at Penn State.
"He never jumped off the page to me," Roethlisberger said. "Is he big? Can he move? Can he throw? Yeah, but there was never a time when I was like, whoa."
This is about as accurate an assessment as we've seen. Allar can do everything you ask of a quarterback but he has zero outstanding traits. Nothing that moves the needle. Where Roethlisberger was successful because he elevated the play of everyone around him, Allar feels more like a guy who needs enough talent around him so he doesn't have to.
