Steve Bieser Takes the Helm as Grand Canyon's New Baseball Coach
Former Missouri baseball coach Steve Bieser has secured a new position as the head coach at Grand Canyon University. His hiring was officially announced on Tuesday, following a standout season at Jacksonville State where he led the team to a remarkable 48 victories and a spot in the NCAA Regionals.
Bieser, who served as the head coach for the University of Missouri from 2017 to 2023, experienced a challenging tenure, failing to guide the Tigers to an NCAA Regional during his time in charge. He concluded his stint in Columbia with a record of 188 wins, 155 losses, and 1 tie before being released by former athletic director Desireé Reed-Francois in May 2023.
After leaving Mizzou, Bieser took on the role at Jacksonville State in 2024. Under his leadership, the Gamecocks achieved significant success, clinching both the Conference USA regular-season and tournament titles. They made a notable return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019, ultimately finishing with a season record of 48-15.
In the interim, Mizzou appointed Kerrick Jackson as their new head coach, who is entering his fourth season in 2027. Under Jackson, the Tigers have struggled, posting a record of 63 wins and 103 losses over three years while missing out on NCAA Regional appearances since 2012.
Meanwhile, Grand Canyon University, now part of the Mountain West Conference, ended the previous season with a record of 21-30 and parted ways with head coach Gregg Wallis in March. The Antelopes have made three NCAA Tournament appearances between 2021 and 2024, showcasing a competitive baseball program.
