Storm Disrupts Memorial Tournament, TV Tower Collapses
An intense weather system swept through the Columbus area on Saturday, prompting the suspension of the third round at the Memorial Tournament held at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio. The storm hit shortly after the PGA Tour action was halted, resulting in a TV tower collapsing near the 10th green.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported following the incident. Joe Nugent, a reporter for NBC4 in Columbus, shared on social media that the brief suspension allowed participants and spectators to find shelter before the severe weather struck. “Everyone time to seek shelter,” he noted in his post.
The sudden storm showcased its strength, as evidenced by the downed tower and scattered debris throughout the course. Adam King, another local journalist, praised the efforts of the grounds crew, calling them the unsung heroes of the event. “There is a tv tower down on 10 and limbs all over the course,” he commented, expressing confidence that the course would be restored to pristine condition for the remaining rounds.
The third round of the Memorial Tournament is set to recommence at 7:30 a.m. ET on Sunday, with the final round scheduled to follow shortly after. Tee times for the concluding round will begin between 11 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. from both the first and tenth tees.
Fans can catch the action on CBS, Golf Channel, and ESPN+, as the tournament continues despite the weather-related interruptions.
