Texas A&M Secures Commitment from Elite 2027 Defensive Lineman Myels Smith
This past weekend, Texas A&M's head coach Mike Elko and his staff welcomed a promising group of 2027 prospects, including several of the 14 commits that have contributed to the program's status as the top-ranked class for 2027. This impressive lineup features five five-star athletes, such as safety Kamarui Dorsey and edge rusher Zyron Forstall.
Among the talents visiting College Station was Myels Smith, a four-star defensive lineman from Inglewood, California. Following his official visit, insider reports suggest that Elko and his defensive line coaches, Elijah Robinson and Tony Jerod-Eddie, have successfully secured Smith's commitment for the long term. The player himself confirmed his decision on Instagram, announcing that he has ended his recruitment and plans to sign with the Aggies in early December.
Smith’s commitment is a significant milestone in the recruiting landscape, especially considering he ranks among the top 60 players nationally and is the fourth-best defensive lineman after a standout junior season. Standing at 6'3" and weighing nearly 250 pounds, Smith has emerged as a formidable force on the field, tallying 91 tackles, 30 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, and four pass breakups last season. Given his skill set, he is expected to quickly adapt and potentially earn a starting position in his second year under Elko's guidance.
As per 247Sports, Myels Smith is currently ranked 51st among 2027 prospects and holds the fourth spot for defensive linemen, as well as being the fifth-ranked player in California.
