Texas Tech's Attempt to Reinstatement for Quarterback Sorsby Rejected by NCAA

Texas Tech's recent effort to have quarterback Brendan Sorsby's eligibility restored has been unsuccessful, according to an informed source speaking to The Associated Press. This ruling marks the second rejection of the school's appeal by the NCAA, which comes amidst ongoing legal proceedings initiated by Sorsby against the organization.

The individual, who requested anonymity, revealed that the NCAA denied Texas Tech's petition on Friday evening. Sorsby was declared ineligible after admitting to gambling on sporting events, including games involving his own team during his time at Indiana. Neither the NCAA nor Texas Tech has publicly commented on the appeal's outcome.

Currently, a Texas judge is expected to issue a ruling regarding Sorsby's filed lawsuit, which aims to secure a temporary injunction allowing him to participate this season with the Red Raiders following his transfer from Cincinnati. A hearing took place earlier this week in Lubbock County's 99th District Court, but as of Friday, no decision had been made by Judge Ken Curry.

In late May, Texas Tech announced its decision to appeal after the NCAA initially denied the reinstatement request. University president Lawrence Schovanec expressed in a letter to the campus community that the institution believed the NCAA's decision should be overturned or altered. Sorsby was ruled ineligible on May 18, coinciding with the filing of his lawsuit against the NCAA.
