Thunder Stand Firm, Reject Trade Inquiries for Chet Holmgren
The Oklahoma City Thunder have made it clear that they are not interested in trading Chet Holmgren, despite interest from other teams. General Manager Sam Presti has shown unwavering confidence in the young star, undeterred by the recent criticism following a disappointing performance in the playoffs.
In a recent episode of Zach Lowe's podcast, the well-known NBA analyst reported that several teams have reached out to the Thunder, hoping to acquire Holmgren after what some have dubbed a "collapse" during the 2026 Western Conference Finals. "Teams have definitely asked about Chet Holmgren," Lowe stated, adding that these inquiries were met with firm refusals.
Holmgren, who is just 24 years old, has proven himself as one of the league's premier talents. He had a standout season, earning accolades as a first-time All-Star, making the All-NBA team, and being named to the All-Defensive team. Additionally, he finished as the runner-up for the Defensive Player of the Year award, trailing only Victor Wembanyama.
Throughout his four seasons in the league, Holmgren has established an impressive track record, contributing significantly to the Thunder's success during their championship run in the 2025 playoffs. He even set a record for the most blocks in an NBA Finals Game 7, with five. As he prepares to embark on a lucrative five-year, $239.3 million contract, the Thunder recognize his immense value, particularly as a defensive cornerstone.
Despite some struggles against the Spurs, the Thunder remain optimistic about Holmgren's future. While comparisons to Wembanyama may arise, the organization is focused on developing Holmgren into a consistent All-NBA player when it matters most.
