TreVeyon Henderson Shifts Focus to Growth After Social Media Backlash

FOXBOROUGH, MA - MAY 27: TreVeyon Henderson #32 of the New England Patriots runs with the ball during an OTA session at Gillette Stadium on May 27, 2026. The second-year running back has recently moved past a period of scrutiny related to a social media post. Earlier this offseason, Henderson appeared to show support for NBA player Jaden Ivey after Ivey was let go by the Chicago Bulls due to controversial remarks regarding the LGBTQ+ community. This led to a significant public reaction, prompting Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel to hold discussions with Henderson and the team.

Reflecting on the conversation, Henderson described it as constructive. “We’ve had a great conversation,” he stated to reporters. “He was very respectful about my beliefs. He expressed that aloud to this team, and so I really appreciate Coach for that.” While Henderson did not directly address the controversy or issue an apology, he emphasized his personal beliefs and how they shape his perspective. “I have love for every one, but my love may not look like the world’s love,” he explained. “I’m going to continue to share my faith and reach people, and just let the Lord use me to reach people with love and truth.”

With the matter behind him, Henderson is now concentrating on his performance on the field, eager to build on a promising rookie year. Drafted 38th overall by the Patriots from Ohio State, he participated in all 21 games during the 2025 season, starting five and accumulating 1,241 scrimmage yards, which placed him second on the team. He also tied for the lead with 10 touchdowns alongside running back Rhamondre Stevenson.

Despite his impressive stats, Henderson is committed to enhancing his skills, particularly in blocking and route running. “The biggest thing I want to continue to develop, blocking and just during this time running routes out of the backfield, catching the ball out of the backfield,” he noted. Henderson's dedication is evident as he actively participates in the Patriots’ offseason workouts and looks forward to the upcoming mandatory minicamp.
