Trump Expresses Admiration for Victor Wembanyama Ahead of NBA Finals

As the New York Knicks prepare to host their first NBA Finals game since 1999, President Donald Trump has announced that he will be attending at least one of the much-anticipated matchups. A long-time supporter of the Knicks, Trump has also voiced his admiration for San Antonio Spurs rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama.

Last week, Trump hinted at his plans to be present at the Finals in New York's iconic Madison Square Garden. This week, he confirmed his attendance, expressing enthusiasm for the Knicks and their owner, Jim Dolan. "I’ve been a Knick fan for a long time, and I’m also a Jim Dolan fan. He’s a nice guy, OK? He spent a long time wanting to win and he’s a competitive guy and he’s got a team that’s amazing. I don’t think they’ve lost a playoff game. Can you imagine that?” Trump remarked on Thursday.

Trump mentioned that he caught snippets of the Knicks' playoff games, including the dramatic finish of Game 1, despite missing the middle part due to discussions with military generals. “It was not looking good,” he noted about the Knicks’ early struggles. “But I watched that end of the game and they were dominant. Really amazing.”

Wembanyama, the towering 7-foot-5 forward, particularly impressed Trump. "Wemby’s a great player — he’s going to be a great player and he is already a great player. I say, ‘How do you guard this guy? He’s 7-foot-5 and he’s got a great shot, right?’ But they find a way to do it," he praised, reflecting on the Spurs' strong teamwork. Wembanyama tallied 26 points and 12 rebounds in the recent game.

Regarding his upcoming plans, Trump confirmed his attendance at a Finals game but did not specify which one. "The answer is yes, he’s invited me and I’m going,” he stated, hinting he might attend more than one game. His presence at the Finals would mark him as the first sitting president to attend an NBA Finals following his historical attendance at last year's Super Bowl.
