Tyler Freeman Leaves Game After Being Struck in the Head
DENVER, CO - JUNE 6: Colorado Rockies right fielder Tyler Freeman left the game after being struck in the helmet during an at-bat in the sixth inning against the Milwaukee Brewers at Coors Field on June 6, 2026. The incident occurred when Freeman was hit by a 98.2 mph cutter thrown by Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski.
Fortunately, the protective helmet flap mitigated some of the impact, as the ball made contact near his ear. Freeman managed to turn his head just in time, avoiding a more serious injury under the visor. Following the hit, he was quickly surrounded by catcher William Contreras and members of the Rockies coaching staff.
Despite the alarming moment, Freeman appeared to be alert and was seen mouthing the words, “I’m fine.” However, team trainers Keith Duggar and Heath Townsend made the prudent decision to remove him from the game for further evaluation. Sterlin Thompson took over in right field following Freeman's exit.
This incident underscores the inherent risks that players face in the sport, particularly with high-velocity pitches. Purple Row will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
