Update on Connor Hellebuyck's Trade Status with the Jets
Connor Hellebuyck remains with the Winnipeg Jets for the time being, but the speculation surrounding a potential trade continues to grow. As a prominent player this offseason, there are whispers that he may have even expressed a desire to be dealt. The Florida Panthers appear to be a likely option if goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky is not retained.
While the situation is still fluid, NHL insider David Pagnotta from The Fourth Period provided a significant update regarding Hellebuyck's future. "The noise isn’t as loud in another part of Canada as it is in Edmonton right now, but it’s starting to mount," Pagnotta commented. He noted that teams have been reaching out to the Jets about Hellebuyck, who holds a full no-movement clause, particularly following remarks he made at the end of the season that raised questions about his commitment to the franchise.
At 33 years old, Hellebuyck is entering the third year of a seven-year, $59.5 million contract, and his ambition to secure a Stanley Cup is evident. Although he had a disappointing season, he did achieve success by winning a gold medal with Team USA, and many believe he could excel on a more competitive team.
However, the Jets are reportedly not actively seeking to trade him, according to Pagnotta. "The Jets are not actively shopping Hellebuyck and do not want to move him," he stated, yet if the goaltender insists on a change, the organization may have to explore trade possibilities. This situation will be closely monitored as Hellebuyck’s status evolves.
