Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Claps Back at R Ashwin's Lighthearted Comment on His Fours Count
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has responded to R Ashwin's playful jab regarding his fewer fours during the IPL 2026 season. The 15-year-old sensation from Rajasthan Royals made headlines by winning the Orange Cap, becoming the youngest player ever to achieve this milestone.
During the season, Sooryavanshi amassed an impressive 776 runs, achieving this feat with an astounding 72 sixes, outpacing his 63 fours. His performance not only secured him the Orange Cap but also saw him shatter Chris Gayle's long-standing record for the most sixes in a single IPL season. Gayle had held the record with 59 maximums.
After Sooryavanshi’s remarkable season, his former teammate Ashwin humorously pointed out that the young player didn’t win the award for the most boundaries. He quipped about Sooryavanshi's unusual four count, suggesting it was a notable absence in his array of accolades.
In response, Sooryavanshi explained that his style of play was influenced by the demands of T20 cricket. He emphasized that while he enjoyed hitting sixes, he has also been training with a red ball to prepare for potential opportunities in the ODI format, especially with the upcoming 2027 World Cup in mind. "Yes, I will have to play on the ground because the next assignment is in a one-day format," he remarked, adding that he’s been practicing hard and is ready to showcase his skills beyond just power hitting.
As Indian cricket transitions through generations of talent, many are excited about the potential Sooryavanshi brings to the future of the sport in the country.
