Red Sox Suffer Setback as Former Top Prospect Faces Side Injury

The Boston Red Sox experienced a challenging day, which worsened after they opted to send 27-year-old pitcher Brayan Bello to the minors following an 8-2 defeat. The team received additional troubling news regarding former No. 2 prospect Kristian Campbell, who was forced to exit the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox game on Thursday due to tightness in his side, as reported by Tommy Cassell from the Worcester Telegram & Gazette.

As of Thursday evening, there has been no update on the extent of Campbell's injury or whether he might require time on the injured list. This latest setback adds to the difficulties the 23-year-old has faced over the past year, following a promising start to his career. Last season, Campbell burst onto the scene, hitting .300 in April along with four home runs and 12 RBIs, earning him the title of American League Rookie of the Month for March/April and leading to an impressive eight-year, $60 million contract extension.

However, Campbell's performance took a downturn, resulting in his demotion to Triple-A. Throughout this season, he has struggled in Worcester, posting a .229 batting average with a .360 on-base percentage, two home runs, and 19 RBIs. Despite the Red Sox's ongoing challenges this year, particularly within their infield, Campbell has yet to return to the major leagues. The severity of his recent injury may further delay his opportunity for a call-up back to Boston.
