Valley View Faces Blackhawk in PIAA Class 4A Softball Championship

On Friday at 1:30 p.m., Valley View (23-3) will take on Blackhawk (15-5) in the PIAA Class 4A championship game, set to unfold at Nittany Lion Softball Park and Beard Field at Penn State University. Fans can secure their tickets online via Hometown Ticketing or purchase them at the venue for $10.

Valley View advanced to the final as the champion of District 2, defeating Northern Lebanon 5-0 in the first round, Archbishop Carroll 2-0 in the quarterfinals, and dominating Pope John Paul II 8-0 in the semifinals. Meanwhile, District 7 runner-up Blackhawk overcame Punxsutawney 12-7 in the first round, followed by a 2-0 win over Bonner-Prendie in the quarterfinals, and a hard-fought 7-5 victory against Harbor Creek in the semifinals.

The Valley View Cougars enter the championship with an impressive 11-game winning streak, having not allowed a run since May 5, during a match against Scranton Prep. This remarkable defensive performance spans 59 innings. Abbi Call, a senior bound for Clemson University, has been a standout player, throwing a one-hitter with 14 strikeouts in the quarterfinals. With a record of 16-2, she boasts a 2.02 ERA and has racked up 160 strikeouts. Offensively, she is hitting .645 with six doubles, 10 home runs, and a total of 36 RBIs.

Blackhawk, making its second appearance in the PIAA championships, aims to bounce back after a narrow loss in the District 7 final. The Cougars have shown resilience, with all five of their losses coming by a mere total of nine runs. Key players include junior Eva Parris, who has a .456 batting average, and senior pitcher Kylie Prisuta, who has struck out 149 batters in 104.1 innings while also contributing significantly to the offense.

As both teams share the Cougar nickname, fans can expect an exciting clash as they vie for the state title. Valley View has a storied history in the tournament, having previously claimed three state championships, while Blackhawk seeks to establish its legacy in this competitive arena.
