West Virginia Secures Commitment from Three-Star RB Moni Williams

West Virginia University has made a significant addition to its 2027 recruiting class, welcoming three-star running back Moni Williams from Memphis (Tenn.) Southwind. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound athlete announced his commitment to the Mountaineers on Friday evening, prioritizing them over numerous offers from schools such as Vanderbilt, Wisconsin, Ole Miss, and Auburn.

Williams visited West Virginia earlier this month, and just under two weeks later, he decided to join the program. His commitment marks the 19th addition to head coach Rich Rodriguez's recruiting class, which currently ranks third in the Big 12 and 34th nationally according to the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

Ranked as the No. 529 player in the country and the 40th running back in the 2027 cycle by Rivals, Williams is viewed more favorably by that service compared to 247Sports and ESPN. In Rivals’ latest update from April, he was listed as the 34th-best running back and the 19th player in Tennessee.

During his junior season, Williams had a standout performance, rushing for 892 yards on 84 carries, averaging an impressive 10.6 yards per carry with seven touchdowns. Additionally, he contributed to the passing game with 17 receptions for 263 yards and two touchdowns.

Williams joins a talented class that features four-star recruits Chris Wilson and Carter Bonner, along with seven other players ranked in the top 800 nationally. The Mountaineers are poised to continue their strong recruiting momentum after signing a record 49 prospects last year, which positioned them among the top 20 nationally and second in the Big 12.
