White Sox Triumph Over Dodgers 8-2 as Meidroth Shines
CHICAGO (AP) — In a thrilling clash between division leaders, the Chicago White Sox secured an 8-2 victory against the shorthanded Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night. Chase Meidroth stood out with three hits and two RBIs, contributing significantly to the team's success.
The White Sox showcased their dominance at home, improving their record to 19 wins in the last 22 games at Guaranteed Rate Field. Andrew Benintendi added to the excitement with a home run, while Miguel Vargas delivered a crucial tiebreaking double. Pitcher Anthony Kay also had a standout performance, striking out seven batters over five innings, boosting his record to 6-1.
The Dodgers were missing star player Shohei Ohtani due to left knee inflammation, which has left him day-to-day. Ohtani had been in excellent form, batting .400 with three home runs in his last five outings. Santiago Espinal, taking Ohtani's place as designated hitter, managed to drive in two runs early in the game.
Roki Sasaki, the Dodgers' starting pitcher, struggled against the White Sox lineup, giving up seven runs and seven hits in just 4 1/3 innings. The turning point in the game came in the fifth inning when Chicago sent 11 batters to the plate, scoring seven times and electrifying a sellout crowd of 37,882.
Vargas’ opposite-field hit off the wall gave the White Sox a 3-2 lead, followed by back-to-back walks that added another run. Meidroth then delivered a two-run single, and Tristan Peters capped off the inning with a two-run triple. With a remarkable batting average of .340 during a 12-game hitting streak, Meidroth has also reached base safely in his last 22 games. Vargas, facing his former team, recorded three hits in the matchup.
Looking ahead, the Dodgers will start Yoshinobu Yamamoto (6-4, 2.68 ERA) in Saturday's game, while the White Sox will send right-hander Sean Burke (3-3, 3.88 ERA) to the mound.
