Xavier Worthy Optimistic Despite Challenging 2025 NFL Season
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy was anticipated to take on a leading role, especially during the initial six weeks when Rashee Rice was suspended. However, his second NFL season took a significant hit during the opening game against the Los Angeles Chargers in Sao Paulo, Brazil, when a collision with teammate Travis Kelce led to a dislocated shoulder and a fully torn labrum.
As the Chiefs' first-round pick from 2024, Worthy also faced ankle issues but still managed to participate in 14 games throughout the season. His statistics—42 receptions for 532 yards and one touchdown—reflect the challenges he encountered. Worthy confirmed that he underwent “successful surgery” on his shoulder in January and discussed the insights he gained from a difficult season during the Chiefs' mandatory minicamp.
“It might have been the best thing for me,” Worthy remarked about his shoulder surgery, emphasizing that it allowed him to focus on strengthening his mental approach and preparing his body for future challenges. He acknowledged that his performance last season did not truly represent his potential. “Obviously, I know what kind of player I could be and what things I could do on the field and what I can bring to the team,” Worthy stated, expressing confidence in his abilities for the upcoming season.
The Chiefs are determined to bounce back after a disappointing 6-11 record last year, which marked their first missed playoffs since 2014, following three consecutive Super Bowl appearances and two championships. The team's collective motivation is to demonstrate that last season was merely an outlier.
