3 2027 free agents the Steelers should avoid re-signing

The Pittsburgh Steelers typically do not negotiate contract extensions during the season, which could be bad news for almost 50 players set to hit free agency in 2027.

With plenty of contract decisions to make, here are three potential 2027 free agents the Steelers shouldn't re-sign.

QB Mason Rudolph

Rudolph's fate in Pittsburgh was all but decided when the Steelers selected quarterback Drew Allar in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Facing an uphill battle to even make the team this upcoming season, Rudolph likely won't receive a contract extension before the 2027 offseason.

LT Broderick Jones

Jones failed to live up to the expectations of a first-round draft pick during his first three seasons in the league. When factoring in the major health concerns surrounding his neck injury and the fact the Steelers declined to pick up his fifth-year option, his future in Pittsburgh looks bleak.

CB Cory Trice

Trice had tremendous upside coming out of the 2023 NFL Draft, but injuries have completely derailed the first three seasons of his career. In a completely new-look secondary, it's hard to imagine the Steelers opting to re-sign Trice, even for a depth role.
