Ada, Byng athletes named tennis All-Staters

Four local players were recently named to the 2026 Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State Tennis teams.

The Ada pair of Taylor Cook and Brityn Waller were selected to the East All-State girls team.

Cook and partner Ava Moon captured the Class 5A state championship in No. 1 Doubles, while Waller finished third in No. 1 Singles.

Matthew Anderson of Ada and Hayden Ware of Byng were selected to the East All-State boys roster.

Anderson and partner Drake Cody finished third in No. 2 Doubles at the 5A State Tournament, while Ware and partner Cole Harrison won the state championship in No. 1 Doubles.

Ada head coach Terry Swopes said he believes he had three girls worthy of All-State honors. Senior Kylee Witt finished as the state runner-up in No. 2 Singles.

“All three are incredibly hard-working players that have had amazing careers, and being selected for All-State is a testament to that fact,” Swopes said. “I hate the rule about only two All-Staters per gender per school because I feel Kylee is 100% an All-Stater also.”

Byng head coach Toby Sanders said Ware put together an All-State caliber career.

“We are so proud of Hayden. He has worked so hard at becoming a great tennis player,” he said. “I’m thankful to have had the privilege of coaching him over the past several years. Hayden has always been a team player — always encouraging the other players. We will miss him next year, but we expect great things from him in the future.”

Coaching the East All-State tennis teams is Jennifer McKnight of Tecumseh.

The All-State tennis matches are scheduled for Tuesday, July 28, at Edmond Center Court.
