Alec Burleson Sparks Cardinals to Victory Over Rangers with 11-Hit Performance
The St. Louis Cardinals found the momentum they needed with a strong offensive display at Busch Stadium, defeating the Texas Rangers 5-3 on Wednesday night. First baseman Alec Burleson played a pivotal role in the game, contributing significantly to the Cardinals' 11-hit attack.
The game kicked off with the Cardinals making their presence felt early. Masyn Winn led off with a walk, and despite a popout from Ivan Herrera, the team kept pushing. Jordan Walker reached on a fielder’s choice, and shortly after, Burleson connected on a powerful two-run double, putting St. Louis ahead 1-0.
The Rangers equalized in the third inning when Kyle Higashioka hit a single, advanced on a wild pitch, and was driven in by Josh Jung. However, the Cardinals quickly regained the lead. Following a single from Walker and a double by Nelson Velázquez, Burleson struck again with another double, making the score 3-1.
The Cardinals continued to build their lead with runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Thomas Saggese hit a triple, driving in a run, and later, Velázquez added another RBI single for a 5-1 advantage. On the mound, Andre Pallante delivered a solid performance, allowing just one earned run over 5 2/3 innings, supported by strong relief pitching from JoJo Romero and Ryne Stanek.
Despite a late push from the Rangers, including a two-run triple from Joc Pederson, the Cardinals held firm. In a tense final inning, closer Riley O’Brien managed to secure the win after facing some adversity. The Cardinals will enjoy a day off before welcoming the Cincinnati Reds for a weekend series, with Kyle Leahy slated to start Friday night’s game.
