Alex Fitzpatrick reveals what Michael Jordan texted Matt Fitzpatrick after their Zurich Classic win

Michael Jordan is one of the most famous sports stars in the world, if not the most famous.

So can you imagine how Alex and Matt Fitzpatrick felt when Jordan sent a text to congratulate them?

The two brothers from Sheffield teamed up to win the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in April.

As a result of their win, Alex Fitzpatrick earned a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour. There is surely not a better thing that Matt Fitzpatrick could have possibly done for his brother than helping him earn his way to the top table of professional golf.

Alex Fitzpatrick shared his gratitude for Matt after their Zurich Classic win, and since then he has proven that he belongs on the PGA Tour.

The 27-year-old backed up his Zurich Classic win with consecutive top-10 finishes in two Signature Events before making the cut at the PGA Championship last week.

What Michael Jordan texted Matt Fitzpatrick after the Zurich Classic

It is well known that NBA legend Michael Jordan is a golf fanatic, so perhaps it should be no surprise that he contacted Matt after the Zurich Classic.

Alex made an appearance on the Yips and Giggles Podcast, and discussed how it feels to be a PGA Tour winner, amongst other things.

The Englishman responded when asked what was the coolest thing about winning in New Orleans.

“I didn’t actually receive the DM, but Michael Jordan messaged my brother to tell me well done,“ he said.

“That was pretty cool, that was a good one!

“I think the actual text message was something like ‘your brother is beating your butt, but tell him well done’.

“That was pretty cool. I was incredibly lucky, I had a lot of nice people message me, but I think he was by far the best one.

“There was a really famous footballer called Luis Figo and he also messaged, which was pretty cool. Those two were by far the biggest.“

Alex Fitzpatrick must be on cloud nine

Receiving a text from one of the greatest sportsmen to have ever lived must have been a surreal feeling for both Matt and Alex Fitzpatrick.

The fact that Michael Jordan texted them in the first place goes to show how meaningful their victory at the Zurich Classic actually was.

Alex Fitzpatrick must feel like he is dreaming right now.

It was only a month ago when he had no status whatsoever on the PGA Tour, and now he is sitting inside the top 25 on the FedEx Cup points list!

What a huge turning point the Zurich Classic was in Alex Fitzpatrick’s life. It must have been special for Michael Jordan to have sent his congratulations!
