Anthony Kim responds to reports that LIV Golf has lost Saudi funding
LIV Golf is expected to inform its players that the Saudi Public Investment Fund will withdraw funding at the end of this season.
This was initially reported two weeks ago, but LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil seemed hesitant to confirm it, questioning the host of unnamed sources who have leaked it to the media.
However, after previously saying the tour is funded through 2032, he then said the tour only has funds for the rest of this season and that LIV will attempt to secure alternative investment. But with the huge financial losses reported from the tour over the last few seasons, that will be a challenge.
The future of LIV Golf’s players is now shrouded in uncertainty. The top names, like Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm, will likely be allowed to return to the PGA Tour, but not those lower down the leaderboards, like Anthony Kim.
He took to X to react to the latest reports.

These reports have not brought new news to the table, but they have confirmed the reports from two weeks ago, which were widely disputed among LIV Golf shareholders.
Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter were particularly vocal, questioning the legitimacy of the reports on social media. The consensus among many involved in LIV Golf is that golf media has an agenda to drag the league’s name through the mud whenever possible.
Kim appears to share this opinion, as he took to X to react to this news: “W8 did the PIF pull out? 1st I’m hearing of this 😂”
This is likely a sarcastic message suggesting that this is old news being recirculated to once again critique LIV Golf.
Kim made a dramatic return to winning ways this season after relegation last year. He battled his way back to the tour through the international series before beating Rahm and DeChambeau during his final round at LIV Adelaide.
But now his future is in serious doubt.
What could happen to Anthony Kim if LIV Golf folds
Despite his win this season, Kim does not have the star power to be welcomed back to the PGA Tour. So what are his options if LIV does indeed fold?
Option one could be to apply for DP World Tour membership and tour the world. He could attempt to earn his PGA Tour card with a top 10 finish in the Race to Dubai standings, but with a host of LIV players likely to do the same, it would be an immensely tall task.
Kim has already shown interest in the International Series. If the PGA Tour remains closed, he could use the Asian Tour as a primary home. This would allow him to maintain his world ranking points and potentially play his way into major championships, which remains a stated goal for his comeback.
And if LIV’s collapse spells the end of Kim’s competitive career, the 40-year-old could enter a new era for himself. This year, he became an equity partner and investor in Malbon Golf, opting for ownership over a cash sponsorship.
If professional play becomes less viable, he could pivot fully into the business side of the sport, leveraging his newfound mainstream popularity to build lifestyle and apparel brands.
