Argentina Secures Comfortable Win Over Honduras Ahead of World Cup

Argentina secured a straightforward 2-0 victory against Honduras in their final warm-up match before the World Cup, held in College Station, Texas, on Saturday. The reigning champions showcased their dominance, with Lautaro Martinez and Giuliano Simeone contributing the goals.

Although Lionel Messi was on the bench, he did not participate as coach Lionel Scaloni managed his return from a hamstring injury sustained on May 24. The game took a significant turn in the 37th minute when Nicolas Tagliafico was brought down by Cristopher Melendez in the penalty area. Martinez, playing for Inter Milan, converted the penalty with a low shot to the left, giving Argentina a 1-0 lead.

The match continued to see Martinez shine, as he assisted Simeone in doubling the score just after halftime. With an impressive backheel, Martinez set up the Atletico Madrid player, who fired a shot past Honduras goalkeeper Edrick Menjivar in the 54th minute.

Argentina's midfield control was evident, with Giovani Lo Celso hitting the crossbar with a remarkable curling shot in the first half, while Tomas Aranda's effort in the second half was saved well by Menjivar. The second half saw Honduras struggle to advance past the halfway line, as Argentina maintained their stronghold on the game.

Looking ahead, Argentina will play Iceland in their last friendly match on Tuesday in Auburn, Alabama, before commencing their World Cup campaign against Algeria on June 17 in Kansas City. Scaloni has hinted that Messi may see action in one of the upcoming friendlies, making his potential appearance against Iceland a possibility.
