Arizona Wildcats Secure Commitment from Texas Linebacker Davon Smith
The Arizona Wildcats are enjoying a fruitful Official Visit Season, recently adding a new recruit to their 2027 class. On Wednesday, linebacker Davon Smith, a three-star prospect hailing from Texas, announced his commitment to the Wildcats.
Smith, who competes at Westfield High School in Houston, is the third player from his team to join Arizona's roster, following defensive lineman Logan Draper and safety Jaylin Oliver. Standing at 6 feet tall and weighing approximately 220 pounds, Smith has showcased impressive performance throughout his high school career. In his first two seasons, he played 16 games and recorded 78 tackles, including 8 for a loss, along with 2 quarterback hurries, an interception, 5 pass breakups, and 4 fumble recoveries. His junior year marked a significant improvement, as he amassed 118 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, 6 quarterback hurries, 3 interceptions, and 2 forced fumbles.
On the recruitment front, Smith has attracted considerable attention, earning 22 offers from various programs. Ultimately, he opted for the Wildcats over several competitors, including Arizona State, Colorado, Houston, Mississippi State, Pittsburgh, Oregon State, and Utah.
In recruitment rankings by 247Sports, Smith holds a three-star rating. He is positioned as the No. 126 linebacker and the No. 182 player in Texas within their internal rankings. In the Composite rankings, he is placed at No. 1,146 nationally, as the No. 100 linebacker, and the 147th best player from Texas.
