Brandon Nimmo had the coolest gesture for Astros fans who let him rob a home run
Rangers right fielder Brandon Nimmo made a sensational catch to rob Yordan Álvarez of a home run in Sunday's win over the Astros. But really, the catch was made possible thanks to some accommodating Astros fans.
And Nimmo knew it.
A visiting player pretty much expects some contact whenever he reaches into the stands to make a play on the ball. And the home fans aren't obligated to make it easy on the fielder either just as long as they don't reach over the plane of the wall.
So when those Astros fans essentially cleared a path for Nimmo to make the play in the fourth inning, it's safe to say that the Rangers outfielder was a little surprised. So much so that he returned with his own gesture of appreciation.

When Nimmo returned to right field for the next defensive half inning, he brought gifts along with him. He gave balls to the fans seated in that first-row area. And it turned out that he also included a handwritten note and autograph.

"Thanks 4 letting me go after it," he wrote on the baseball.
The Astros ended up losing, 8-0, so it wasn't like Álvarez's would-be homer was a potential difference maker. So, they were smart to back away because it would have triggered a fan interference review at the very least.
And now they got to go home with a cool story and an autographed baseball. Good on Nimmo for the classy gesture.
