Brazil Dominates Panama 6-2 in World Cup Warm-Up Match
In a commanding display, Brazil overwhelmed Panama with a 6-2 victory on Sunday at the iconic Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, marking a thrilling send-off ahead of the World Cup. The match showcased Brazil's attacking prowess, led by Real Madrid's Vinicius Jr., who opened the scoring just seconds into the game.
Vinicius struck first after receiving a pass from veteran midfielder Casemiro, unleashing a powerful shot from 25 yards that set the tone for the match. However, the Brazilian squad faced an unexpected challenge in the 14th minute when Panama equalized with a fortuitous goal. A free-kick taken by Michael Murillo took a significant deflection off Matheus Cunha, leaving Brazil's goalkeeper Alisson helpless.
Brazil quickly regained the lead just before halftime, thanks to another collaboration between Vinicius and Casemiro. Vinicius maneuvered into a promising position on the left side of the penalty area, and his curling shot found its way into the net with a slight touch from Casemiro's head.
In the second half, coach Carlo Ancelotti opted for a dramatic shift, substituting all but one of his starting players. The new lineup wasted no time in showcasing their dominance, scoring three rapid goals to extend their advantage to 5-1. Teenager Rayan netted the third goal in the 53rd minute, capitalizing on a misplayed pass from Panama's goalkeeper Orlando Mosquera. Lucas Paqueta followed suit with a goal from the edge of the area in the 60th minute, and Igor Thiago converted a penalty just three minutes later after being fouled by Mosquera.
Botafogo's Danilo rounded off Brazil's scoring in the 81st minute, skillfully controlling a pass from Paqueta before slotting it home. Panama managed to score a consolation goal late in the match when Carlos Harvey unleashed a stunning 30-yard shot. Brazil's next challenge will be a friendly against Egypt in Cleveland, Ohio, before they begin their World Cup Group C campaign against Morocco on June 13, facing Haiti and Scotland in the group stage as well.
