Bud Cauley Claims First PGA Tour Victory at Canadian Open

CALEDON, Ontario (AP) — Bud Cauley secured his inaugural PGA Tour victory on Sunday at the RBC Canadian Open, marking a remarkable comeback eight years after a serious car accident nearly ended his golfing career. The 36-year-old golfer took control of the tournament with a precise chip-in birdie on the par-4 12th hole and finished with a commendable 5-under 65, totaling 17-under 263.

Cauley began the final round trailing Jackson Suber by one stroke. His strong performance on the back nine included a birdie from just 4 feet on the 206-yard 11th hole, followed by an impressive hole-out from 93 feet on the 12th. He continued his streak with successful putts of 13.5 feet on the 13th and 15 feet on the 15th, both par-4s. Despite a bogey on the par-4 17th, he managed to par the par-5 18th to secure the win.

Matt Fitzpatrick finished in second place, adding an eagle on the 18th hole to his round of 64, which propelled him to the top of the FedEx Cup standings. Viktor Hovland followed closely in third at 14-under after a 65. Other notable players included Suber with a 70 and Jesper Svensson, Jimmy Stanger, and Brice Garnett, all at 13-under.

This victory is particularly significant for Cauley, who had to fight through a challenging recovery after sustaining multiple injuries, including six broken ribs and a collapsed lung, following a car accident while a passenger in 2016.
