Chapecoense and Avaí Set to Clash for Copa Sul-Sudeste Title on Sunday

This Sunday at 11 a.m., Chapecoense and Avaí will face off at Arena Condá in Chapecó to determine the champion of the Copa Sul-Sudeste. In their previous encounter at Ressacada, Avaí secured a 3-0 victory, giving them a significant advantage as they head into the final match. They can afford to lose by a margin of two goals, and if the aggregate score is tied, the winner will be decided through a penalty shootout.

The inaugural edition of the Copa Sul-Sudeste features 12 teams from six different states: Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Paraná, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Minas Gerais. The tournament format began with two groups of six teams each, with the top two from each group advancing to the semifinals.

Chapecoense topped Group A, accumulating 13 points from four victories, one draw, and one loss. They continued their strong performance in the semifinals, defeating Novorizontino 2-0 on the road and drawing 2-2 in the return leg at home.

Avaí, on the other hand, finished as the leader of Group B with a total of 10 points, achieved through three wins, one draw, and two losses. In the semifinals, they drew 2-2 away against Volta Redonda but secured their place in the final with a decisive 3-0 win at home.
