Christopher Bell Faces Wrist and Ankle Injuries After Crash, Says Coach Gibbs

Christopher Bell underwent evaluation at the infield care center at Michigan International Speedway following a serious crash during the NASCAR Cup Series race on Sunday. The incident took place on Lap 147 when Chase Elliott lost control and collided with Bell, sending both cars crashing into the wall. The force of the impact damaged the SAFER Barrier, prompting a significant delay for repairs.

After the race, team owner Joe Gibbs revealed that Bell sustained injuries to his wrist and ankle. "I think it's just we're going to continue tonight,” Gibbs stated regarding the ongoing assessment of Bell's condition. “When he gets home, we're going to make sure that he gets everything that he needs to get there, whatever it might be, and then we'll just have to kind of wait.”

While Bell chose to leave the care center without speaking to the media, Elliott reflected on the crash, expressing his remorse. "I feel okay," Elliott said. "I just really, really hate that happened, first and foremost. I want to apologize to Bell and the whole 20 team. That was my fault." He described the moment as a miscalculation on his part that led to the collision, emphasizing that it was unintentional.

Both drivers were able to exit their cars after the crash, and Elliott approached Bell to express his apologies. "I mean, it was a huge hit," Elliott remarked. "I knew he’d already hit the wall hard, too, before I hit him. So those things happen fast, but I saw it happen. I knew it was big, so I just wanted to make sure he was alright." The racing community continues to monitor Bell's recovery as the team assesses his injuries further.
