Class ‘B’ state baseball semifinal stage set
BROOKINGS, S.D. (KELO) — The stage is set for the Class ‘B’ state baseball semifinals after four first round games on Monday.
Top-seed West Central and No. 8-seed Clark Area kicked off the tournament as the Dinosaurs upset the Trojans in a 4-2 comeback win. Clark Area scored four unanswered runs, three in the top of the seventh inning to claim victory.
No. 3-seed Lennox met No. 6-seed Dakota Valley in the second game of the day. The Panthers garnered another upset, taking down the Orioles 4-3. DV held off a Lennox comeback effort in the later innings to advance.
The four-five matchup saw PGDCWL earn the third upset of the day, 4-3, over Vermillion. The Honkers jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the top of the sixth and never looked back, fending off the Tanagers late.
The final game of the day saw No. 2 Madison with a 3-2 walk-off over seven-seed Winner/Colome. The game was tied at two until the bottom of the seventh when Cale Johnson hit an RBI single to seal the Royals fate.
The Honkers will face Clark Area at 10am in Brookings on Tuesday while the second semifinal pits Dakota Valley against the Bulldogs at 12:30pm.
