Club América Prepares Contingency Plan for Raúl Jiménez's Potential Return
As the Mexican football season wraps up, Club América is gearing up for the upcoming 2026 Apertura tournament. The club's management is keen on securing striker Raúl Jiménez after the World Cup, especially since his contract with Fulham in the Premier League is set to expire.
Despite this hopeful outlook, the leadership at Las Águilas is taking precautionary measures. They have devised a backup strategy in case Jiménez's return does not materialize. The alternative target is a player familiar to the fans: 27-year-old Uruguayan forward Federico Viñas.
Viñas recently concluded a productive season with Real Oviedo in Spain, where he played in 34 matches and netted 9 goals. Following Oviedo's relegation, he is expected to return to Grupo Pachuca, which holds his contract.
The prospect of bringing Viñas back to Coapa is seen as achievable, given that the Mexican company is looking to offload him due to his salary demands. This could facilitate negotiations for Viñas to rejoin Club América, where he previously played from 2020 to 2023.
