Cowboys May Part Ways with $136 Million Pro Bowl WR CeeDee Lamb
The Dallas Cowboys boast one of the most formidable wide receiver lineups in the NFL, especially within the NFC East. While the overall depth at wide receiver may be a concern, the team's top talents prove to be a constant challenge for opposing defenses. Last season, George Pickens led the Cowboys with 93 catches, racking up 1,429 receiving yards and scoring nine touchdowns, while CeeDee Lamb closely followed with 75 receptions, 1,077 yards, and three touchdowns.
However, ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky speculated on Monday’s episode of GetUp that the Cowboys may consider trading Lamb as early as the 2027 offseason. “They're not keeping both of them,” Orlovsky stated, highlighting the team’s potential decision between signing Pickens to a long-term contract or trading Lamb.
Orlovsky further commented on the situation, suggesting Lamb has demonstrated greater reliability compared to Pickens, who he noted still has questions regarding maturity. The Cowboys face a tough choice, as they drafted Lamb with the 17th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft; he has since proven to be a significant contributor, leading the league in receptions during the 2023-24 season and accumulating impressive career stats of 571 catches for 7,416 yards and 41 touchdowns over 95 games. His accolades include five Pro Bowl selections and various All-Pro honors.
Despite his successes, Lamb has faced criticism for drop issues, recording 11 drops in the 2024-25 season and eight the previous year. In contrast, Pickens, who joined the team from the Pittsburgh Steelers, must demonstrate consistent high-level performance this season to secure his position with the Cowboys long-term. The upcoming season holds significant implications for both wide receivers as the franchise navigates its future.
