Daniel Cormier has found himself at the center of an unusual social media firestorm surrounding UFC White House. On Sunday evening, discussions erupted online regarding a purported exchange between Cormier and Eric Trump, the son of former President Donald Trump, in which Eric allegedly sought insight about the upcoming fights. Screenshots of these supposed direct messages circulated on various social platforms, indicating that Cormier had tweeted and subsequently deleted his response to the inquiry.
In the reportedly deleted tweet, Cormier stated, “I’m probably going to get a lot of flak for bringing this to light, however I refuse to stay silent. The UFC is a sport that I am deeply passionate about, I will not tolerate this type of insider behavior. Shame on anyone trying to ruin this beautiful event.”
The alleged conversation began with Trump inquiring whether Cormier intended to place any bets on the fights. After Cormier informed him that betting on UFC matches is against the rules, Trump shifted his focus to asking if any fighters were injured, prompting a puzzled reply from Cormier. “I’m not quite sure why you’re asking me this, but I think they’re all in good shape,” Cormier responded. Trump then directly questioned whether any of the fights were fixed, adding, “Are any of the fights tomorrow rigged? I’ve been eyeing the Lopes fight and I think an upset wouldn’t be too unrealistic. $$”
In response, Cormier firmly stated, “No, none of our fights are rigged and honestly, I am appalled that you would even ask me something like that.” While the conversation has since been removed from Twitter, Cormier later addressed the situation in a tweet, asking, “Are people really this dumb?” It remains unclear whether Cormier was implying that the exchange was fabricated, that his account might have been hacked, or if he was commenting on something else altogether.
Cormier is set to provide cageside commentary for the UFC event taking place on the South Lawn of the White House later tonight.
