Donovan McNabb's Son Chooses UNLV Over Syracuse, Following His Own Path
Donovan McNabb is experiencing a unique twist in his legacy as his son, Donovan McNabb Jr., has opted to commit to UNLV rather than follow in his father's footsteps at Syracuse. This decision, reported by various sources, marks a significant moment for both father and son.
Ranked as the 107th wide receiver in the class of 2027 by 247 Sports, McNabb Jr. recently completed a strong season at Brophy College Prep, where he tallied 23 receptions, 280 receiving yards, and five touchdowns. Despite Syracuse's offer, he has chosen to join the Rebels under head coach Dan Mullen, who led the team to an impressive 10-2 record in his inaugural season.
Donovan McNabb Sr. enjoyed a stellar college career at Syracuse from 1995 to 1998, where he accumulated 8,389 passing yards and 77 touchdowns. He later became a six-time Pro Bowl quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, making significant playoff runs, including a Super Bowl appearance.
Interestingly, Mullen's history with Syracuse as a graduate assistant during McNabb's standout 1998 season may have influenced McNabb Jr.'s decision. During that year, McNabb was a Heisman Trophy finalist, showcasing an outstanding performance with 2,134 passing yards and 22 touchdowns.
The choice reflects McNabb Jr.'s desire to carve out his own identity in the sport, even as he steps away from his father's storied alma mater.
