Drake Maye and Wife Host Charity Softball Game at Polar Park

WORCESTER — On Sunday, Polar Park welcomed a special event as New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye and his wife, Ann Michael Maye, presented the inaugural MayeDay Celebrity Softball Classic. The occasion coincided with the Worcester Red Sox wrapping up a six-game road trip against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, drawing attention from fans and media alike.

The charity event featured a lineup of notable athletes and celebrities, all coming together to raise funds for Boston Children’s Hospital and the MayeDay Family Foundation, which supports families facing difficulties. “This is for the kids,” Maye stated. “It’s a great night.” His wife echoed his sentiments, expressing gratitude for the support that helped transform their ideas into reality, saying, “It’s really cool to see how it all came together.”

Before the festivities kicked off, the couple spoke to reporters near first base, sharing their excitement about launching their foundation and visiting Worcester for the first time. Maye humorously acknowledged that he might have recruited a more skilled group for his softball team.

The event included a home run derby, a competitive softball game, and concluded with a fireworks display. Team Patriots, coached by head coach Mike Vrabel, comprised Maye, his brothers, and various athletes, including Rhamondre Stevenson and Zdeno Chara. Team Sox featured notable figures like Julian Edelman and comedian Matt Rife.

During the game, Patriots wide receiver Mack Hollins made a memorable moment by hitting a home run and running the bases barefoot. The game saw some high-scoring action, but despite a dramatic near-walk-off by Maye, Team Patriots fell short, losing 17-16 due to a mid-game rule change. “It means so much to see the turnout like this,” Ann Michael remarked after the event, highlighting their commitment to supporting children in need. “It’s just for the kids,” added Drake Maye, reinforcing the day's purpose.
