Former highest-paid NFL WR expresses shock at current league salaries
Brandon Marshall earned himself quite an esteemed legacy during his NFL career, but he can't imagine being compensated for it like the current crop of NFL stars' wideouts.
Marshall played wide receiver for several teams in the league over a 13-year NFL career from 2006-2018 and was named a two-time All-Pro and six-time Pro Bowl selection during his tenure at the professional level. Playing at that level enabled him to become the highest-paid wide receiver in the league at one point, earning $9.1 million per year in 2013.
Nowadays, however, you can get paid a good bit more for being one of the top caliber players at the wide receiver position, even though just 13 years have passed since. The current top-paid wideout, Amon-Ra St. Brown, is on a contract set to pay him $27.5 million per season.
In 2013, Brandon Marshall was the highest paid receiver in the NFL, earning $9.1M per year.
Today, the highest paid receiver (Amon-Ra St. Brown) earns three times that amount at $27.5M per year."
Marshall says it's "unbelievable" on Portfolio Players presented by @etrade. pic.twitter.com/kdVBxZ6PXy— Front Office Sports (@FOS) May 26, 2026
Recently, the topic came up during Marshall's appearance on Front Office Sports' Portfolio Players, and he expressed a certain level of disbelief at players clocking such high figures these days.
"I made more money than Michael Irving and Jerry Rice, right? And now I'm seeing these guys, and I'm like, $30 million in one year. That is unbelievable," Marshall said.
