Framber Valdez Struggles Again as Tigers Fall to Twins

Detroit – Framber Valdez's performance on the mound remains a mixed bag in his inaugural season with the Tigers. The left-handed pitcher, who was signed to a hefty three-year, $115 million deal, showcased inconsistency during Wednesday's game against the Minnesota Twins, contributing to a 6-4 loss at Comerica Park.

The game was disrupted by a lengthy delay, lasting 75 minutes, which followed Valdez's arduous 11-pitch first inning. After waiting through a 67-minute rain delay and a scoreless bottom half of the first, he returned to the mound only to yield a 444-foot solo homer to Royce Lewis in the second inning, following two quick outs.

Valdez faced further challenges, managing to escape a bases-loaded situation in the third inning thanks to an impressive defensive play by third baseman Kevin McGonigle and first baseman Spencer Torkelson. However, the fifth inning proved disastrous when Valdez hit the first two batters, leading to a three-run homer from Byron Buxton that put the Twins ahead 4-1. With this performance, Valdez's ERA climbed to 4.48, and the Tigers have now lost seven of his last eight starts.

Despite facing a lineup of six Twins relievers, the Tigers managed to rally in the sixth inning. With the bases loaded, Kerry Carpenter hit a two-run single, but they couldn't capitalize further as Dillon Dingler and Riley Greene struck out. The Twins later added two more runs in the seventh inning, which included a wild pitch from lefty Drew Sommers.

McGonigle stood out defensively, making several exceptional plays throughout the game, including cutting down a runner at home and executing a double play in the eighth. Wednesday's game was affected by weather once again, as storms had previously delayed Tuesday's match for nearly two hours, proving that Mother Nature had an impact on the series.
