Gonzaga Secures French Guard Juwan Ekanga-Ehawa for Backcourt Depth
Coach Mark Few and the Gonzaga Bulldogs have strengthened their backcourt by signing 18-year-old Juwan Ekanga-Ehawa, a versatile combo guard from France’s LNB Elite division. According to reports from Weave Agency and Field of 68’s Jeff Goodman, Ekanga-Ehawa has committed to the program after showcasing his talents with JL Bourg’s U-21 team.
This signing marks a renewed connection with French basketball, reminiscent of former Gonzaga guard Joel Ayayi, who also played for JL Bourg. Ekanga-Ehawa has made a significant impact this season, averaging 19.1 points per game with impressive shooting statistics, including a 57% field goal rate and 70% from the free-throw line. He also contributes 5.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 2.1 steals over 22 games.
Recognized as one of France's promising young talents, Ekanga-Ehawa earned a place in the prestigious French Young Star Game this past March and was named the Most Improved Player in the Espoirs ELITE league. His skills in ball-handling and distribution make him an ideal fit to serve as a backup point guard, enhancing the team's overall performance.
As Gonzaga gears up for the Pac-12 Conference, their roster is shaping up to be competitive, with 12 of the 15 spots already filled. The lineup includes notable players such as 6-4 sophomore Mario Saint-Supery and 6-6 transfer Isiah Harwell from Houston, setting the foundation for what could be a top-ten team in the upcoming season.
To further bolster their backcourt, Gonzaga may still look to add a veteran player with collegiate experience and shooting ability, along with another walk-on to support their current roster.
