Spokane Indians Dominate Eugene Emeralds 11-2 with Power Hitting

EUGENE, Ore. — The Spokane Indians showcased their offensive prowess on Saturday, overwhelming the first-place Eugene Emeralds with an 11-2 victory in the fifth game of their six-game series in the High-A Northwest League at PK Park. This win puts the Indians' season record at 26-36, while they have impressively hit 13 home runs across the first five matchups of the series.

In a stark contrast to the previous four tightly contested games, which were all decided by a single run, the Indians broke free with a commanding performance. Max Belyeu was a standout, contributing significantly with two home runs, including a lead-off shot on the very first pitch from Eugene pitcher Hunter Dryden, who hails from Deer Park High School. This marked Belyeu's ninth home run of the season, making him the team leader.

The Emeralds (41-21) quickly responded in the first inning. Trevor Cohen started with a single and stole second base, while a walk to Jhonny Level set the stage for Gavin Kilen, who doubled to bring both runners home. However, the Indians fought back in the second inning when Kelvin Hidalgo hit a solo home run, his sixth of the season, leveling the score.

Spokane took control in the third inning, scoring three runs with Belyeu's walk and subsequent stolen base setting the tone. Ethan Hedges drove him in with a double, followed by a two-run homer from Alan Espinal, his fourth of the year. Hedges later added another RBI double in the fourth to extend the lead to 6-2.

The Indians sealed their victory in the eighth inning with a three-run homer from Juan Castillo, his second of the season, shortly before Belyeu hit his second home run of the game, a two-run blast that capped the scoring at 11-2. Meanwhile, reliever Fisher Jameson, standing at six-foot-five, delivered an impressive performance, tossing four shutout innings while allowing just four hits and striking out four batters.

The series wraps up on Sunday with the final game scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
