Grayson Rodriguez Offers Update Following Early Exit Due to Back Tightness
Los Angeles Angels pitcher Grayson Rodriguez left the game against the Tampa Bay Rays in the third inning due to experiencing tightness in his lower back. This marked the sixth start of the season for Rodriguez, who had recently returned from injury. The incident occurred after he threw a pitch that hit Cedric Mullins, prompting visible discomfort.
After the game, Rodriguez addressed the media, providing an optimistic outlook regarding his condition. He acknowledged the back tightness but reassured reporters that the injury is not currently a major concern. “Not too concerning right now. I mean obviously I’m concerned because I came out of the game for it, but it’s just going to be something that we’re going to have to manage over the next couple days to be able to get back out there,” he stated, as reported by Jeff Fletcher from SoCal News Group.
If all goes well and he does not require additional time off, Rodriguez is slated to make his next start on June 24 against the Baltimore Orioles, the team that originally drafted him. Rodriguez’s journey this season has been challenging; he began on the injured list due to shoulder inflammation and missed the entirety of the previous season following elbow surgery.
Expressing his frustration at having to leave the game, Rodriguez remarked, “Obviously it’s frustrating anytime you’ve got to come out of the game, especially when you’re on the IL as long as I was here recently. But, I feel like I’m getting close. I feel like my stuff’s getting a little bit better… I really wish I could have pitched deep today. It’s super frustrating.”
Rodriguez's return to form is crucial for the Angels as they navigate the season amid various injury challenges.
