How many SEC teams are in NCAA Baseball Tournament? Regional teams, hosts
The road to Omaha for the College World Series is set. And as per usual, much of that road is through SEC country.
The preeminent conference for diamond sports is hosting seven regionals this year, with No. 3 Georgia leading the charge. The Bulldogs won the SEC title in merciful fashion on May 24, defeating Arkansas 11-1 in seven innings behind a four-RBI day from Jack Arcamone.
While Georgia enters the tournament as a team to beat, there is plenty of representation up and down the field. Auburn earned the No. 4 regional spot, Texas is at No. 6, Alabama is No. 7, and Florida is at No. 8 to round out super regional hosts — if they draw chalk.
Meanwhile, Texas A&M is at 12 and Mississippi State rounds out the conference at No. 14.
The conference, which is the home of the past six College World Series champions, had notable omissions in tournament mainstays LSU and Vanderbilt. The No. 1 overall also seed went to the dominant UCLA Bruins. Will the final CWS bracket look like 2025, when just two teams from the conference made it to the final field of eight? Or will it be closer to 2024, when Tennessee won a bracket that was comprised by 50% SEC reps?
Here's a look at how the conference fared in the bracket reveal this year.
SEC teams in NCAA Baseball Tournament
12 SEC teams made it into the field of 64 this year, led by conference champion Georgia and star catcher Daniel Jackson.
The last team in for the SEC was Kentucky, which finished 31-21 overall and 13-17 in the SEC. Georgia, for its part, was 46-12 (23-7 SEC) as the school won the conference tournament for the first time in program history.
While Arkansas lost a hosting spot, it could well still make it out of its region as the No. 2 seed in the Lawrence Regional, where No. 15 Kansas is host. It was a tough break for the Razorbacks, who lost to Georgia in the conference final.
