Huron Falls Short Against Bloomfield Hills Marian in State Soccer Semifinals

WATERFORD – New Boston Huron's hopes for a comeback were dashed by a challenging start in their state soccer semifinal match. Facing off against the third-ranked Bloomfield Hills Marian, Huron found themselves trailing 3-0 at halftime, ultimately losing the game 4-1 in the Division 2 semifinals on Wednesday, June 10.

Marian struck early, scoring just nine minutes into the match and quickly followed with a second goal eight minutes later. The decisive blow came shortly before halftime when Marian found the back of the net again with just over five minutes remaining. “We were finally starting to play our game down 2-0,” remarked Huron coach Matt Lividini. “It looked like we might possibly pull back into it, but they scored off a corner kick.” Lividini praised Marian's execution, noting that a well-placed header sealed the goal. “They are definitely a good team,” he added.

After the break, Huron managed to match Marian's intensity, with the second half ending in a 1-1 draw. “The second half was 1-1, but we couldn’t get those three goals back,” Lividini explained. Avery Turk netted Huron’s sole goal, assisted by Miley Skamiera. Reflecting on the game, Lividini pointed out, “In the beginning, we were just a little too timid a little too long. That was the story of the game.”

Having reached the state finals the previous year, Huron concludes this season with an impressive 18-4 record, just one step shy of their goal. “When you get to the Final Four, two teams have got to advance and two have to go home,” Lividini noted as he looked ahead. With seven seniors graduating from the team, he remains optimistic, stating, “We’ll be right back.”
