Indian Hill's Devlan Daniel Earns Gatorade Player of the Year Honors

Devlan Daniel, a junior at Indian Hill High School, has been recognized as the Gatorade Player of the Year in baseball. His outstanding performance helped lead the Braves to a commendable 21-5 season, culminating in a run to the Division IV district finals.

During the season, Daniel boasted an impressive batting average of .436, hitting four home runs and driving in 20 runs while scoring 35 times himself. On the pitching front, he achieved a remarkable 1.05 ERA over 26 innings, striking out 44 batters along the way. Daniel has already committed to play at Mississippi State University.

In addition to his athletic achievements, Daniel excels academically, maintaining a weighted GPA of 3.84. He is actively involved in several student organizations at Indian Hill High, including the Partners Club, which fosters connections between students with special needs and their peers. He also contributes to the Student Leadership Team and serves as a student ambassador.

"Devlan has to be game-planned for in all facets. He can impact games with his speed and defense just as much as he can in the batter’s box or on the mound," commented Matt Heller, the head coach of rival Madeira. "From a pitching standpoint, he’s made huge strides from last year. He’s seeing the ball so well at the plate. He doesn’t get many pitches to hit, but he’s disciplined. If you miss a location, especially with a fastball, he makes you pay.”

The Gatorade Player of the Year recognition highlights outstanding student-athletes across the nation, with softball being the next sport to be announced on June 5.
