Iowa Basketball Fans Share Mixed Feelings on New Arena Court Design

The recent unveiling of the new court design at Carver-Hawkeye Arena has prompted a variety of responses from Iowa basketball supporters. The iconic parquet flooring has been replaced with a fresh maple-wood surface, previously used during the 2026 NCAA Men's Tournament Elite 8, leading to a wave of commentary on social media.

One of the most noticeable alterations is the absence of the parquet pattern, replaced instead by a larger black "Tigerhawk" logo adorned with gold trim at the center. Additionally, the court features a "22" emblem marking where Caitlin Clark made her record-breaking 3-pointer. The keys are now black, with the restricted area outlined in gold, while the 3-point arcs are edged with a fine black line. The sidelines and baselines have also undergone a transformation, showcasing a black background over the university's "Block I chainmail pattern," with "Iowa Hawkeyes" displayed in an interlocking font that incorporates the "Block I" logo.

While the design aims for simplicity, allowing the performance of the men's and women's teams to take center stage, fans have shared a range of reactions online. Some expressed disappointment, wishing for a more vibrant design or the return of gold elements. One user remarked, "I was kinda hoping they’d bring the gold back," while another noted, "This court couldn’t be less interesting to Iowa fans." Others, however, appreciated the clean look, with one fan stating, "I like it. Clean. I was ready to move on from parquet flooring."

As the Iowa basketball community adjusts to this new look, the court's design appears to be a topic of lively debate among supporters, with many eager to see how it will impact the teams' performances in the upcoming season.
