Jets' New Deal for Tippmann Influences Steelers' Future Contract Decisions
On Monday, the New York Jets revealed that they have secured a significant four-year contract extension for standout guard Joe Tippmann, valued at $66.4 million. This agreement places Tippmann among the top 15 highest-paid guards in the NFL based on annual salary, with $34.9 million of the deal guaranteed.
While this development may not seem directly relevant to the Pittsburgh Steelers, it actually provides valuable insight into the potential financial commitments the team may face when considering an extension for guard Mason McCormick. The Steelers drafted McCormick in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft from South Dakota State.
McCormick stepped into a starting role during his rookie year and has continued to impress. As he approaches the 2027 offseason, he will have just one year remaining on his four-year, $4.784 million rookie contract. If he continues to excel as the starting left guard, he could command a substantial salary when it comes time for negotiations.
